Japanese outfit extends its leads across all championships with Rowland finishing fifth and Nato sixth

Nissan Formula E Team took a solid haul of points in Round 10 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Shanghai. Starting sixth, Oliver Rowland quickly made his way towards the front and was involved in some intense battles in the closing laps, crossing the line in fifth. On the other side of the garage, Norman Nato executed his strategy perfectly and managed his energy well as he moved up into the podium positions, eventually finishing sixth.

With heavy rain forecast for the second race of the weekend, the timings for tomorrow have been brought forward. Qualifying will now begin at 09:00 (UTC+8) local time, with lights out at 13:00.

Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal, Nissan Formula E Team: “We’re pleased to have achieved a double points finish today. The team reacted brilliantly to a tricky start to the weekend, as in practice and even in qualifying we didn’t look as strong as in previous rounds. But we had a clean race until the very last laps and a great strategy, especially with Norman who made it all the way to the top three from P15 and with more energy than the cars around him. Unfortunately we didn’t manage to achieve our full potential amidst the chaos of the finishing laps and ended with Oliver crossing the line in P5 and Norman in P6. Maybe we could have done something more, but we have extended our lead across all three championships which was ultimately our goal, so this is still a good result.”

Oliver Rowland

“It was a very intense race out there today, so I’m satisfied to take fifth as well as increasing my advantage in the Drivers’ Standings. This was the first Pit Boost event which turned into a peloton style round, so it was difficult to be efficient throughout the event. We lacked a bit of pace from Free Practice so to finish with 10 points is a credit to the great effort from the team. We’ve got some factors to analyze overnight to make sure we can improve on this performance for a very different race tomorrow with heavy rain forecast.”

Norman Nato

“We showed strong race pace today and I am happy to have made up many positions – I was even in P18 at some point and moved all the way up to the top three, just missing out on a podium finish at the very end. It’s great to see that this time our speed materialized into points and to have scored with both cars, as this is one of our primary objectives for the remainder of the season. We’ll for sure be aiming to build on this heading into tomorrow’s event.”
