Rowland claims third in tightly-fought event

Nissan Formula E Team’s Oliver Rowland clinched third place in Round 7 of the 2025/26 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship, putting in a strong drive to claim his fourth podium of the season in the first race of the Berlin E-Prix weekend.

Reigning Formula E champion Rowland showed positive one-lap pace in qualifying earlier in the day, making it to the semi-final stage of the Duels and lining up third on the grid. Meanwhile, teammate Norman Nato missed out on the top four in his group by just over two-tenths of a second, meaning he would begin the E-Prix in 20th.

Rowland made a good start to the race and remained in the front group throughout the opening exchanges, moving into the lead before coming in for his Pit Boost stop at the end of Lap 25. The Brit kept up his strong speed to the end, taking Attack Mode late on and challenging for second, before settling for third and earning his fourth podium finish in seven races. Meanwhile, Nato opted to take an early Attack Mode just after his Pit Boost stop, moving up the field before eventually crossing the line in 18th.

The duo will be back in action tomorrow for Round 8 of Season 12, with qualifying underway at 11:40 local time (UTC+2) and the race beginning at 16:05.

Tommaso Volpe, managing director and team principal, Nissan Formula E Team: “We came to Berlin determined to turn things around after a few tough races and we managed to do so, securing a really good result with Oli. The whole team worked hard during the break and it paid off strongly for Oli, as he qualified well and then put together a really good race to maximize our performance. On Norman’s side, we didn’t find the right set-up on his car, which compromised both his qualifying and race performance, so we’ll be focusing on addressing that ahead of tomorrow’s race to put us in the best possible position to score strong points with both cars.”

“It was a tough day but we’re really happy with the result. We made a big step in qualifying this morning, one-lap pace hasn’t been my strength this year so I was delighted to line up third on the grid. In the beginning we were trying to be efficient before the pace picked up earlier than we expected, which made it more difficult on the energy side. We had a smart race, I worked well with cars around me and stayed out longer than others as I had slipstream from those who had already come in for their stop, so overall it was a positive race for us. I want to dedicate the podium to Alex Zanardi, I was lucky enough to drive for him in karting, so it’s a very sad day to hear of his passing.”

“Today was a tough one, we didn’t get it right with the set-up and that cost us in both qualifying and the race. We’re looking into what went wrong and will make some changes tomorrow to try and fix it. The good thing about Formula E is that we go again tomorrow and in this series it can be so different from one day to another. We’ll do our best to find the solution and have a better day.”
